What Are UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs?
UK visa sponsorship jobs are roles offered by employers that hold a Home Office sponsor licence and assign a Certificate of Sponsorship, which lets the worker apply for a Skilled Worker visa.
Examples include NHS doctor posts, university data analyst posts, and local council workforce roles.
A Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) is an electronic record assigned by a licensed sponsor. The worker cannot apply for the visa until the sponsor assigns it.
Which UK Visa Uses Sponsorship Jobs?
The Skilled Worker visa is the main UK work route that uses sponsorship. It replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa in December 2020.
The Health and Care Worker visa also needs a licensed sponsor. Both routes appear on sponsor job boards.

What English Level Do UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs Require?
Applicants need English at CEFR level B2 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening since 8 January 2026. The previous level was B1.
Three routes prove B2 English:
- A Secure English Language Test (SELT) at B2
- A degree taught in English, confirmed by Ecctis (UK ENIC)
- Nationality of a majority English-speaking country
Nigeria is not on the majority English-speaking country list, so Nigerian applicants use a SELT or a verified degree.
Approved SELT providers include IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic UKVI, LanguageCert, and Trinity College London. IELTS requires 5.5 in each skill for B2, and TOEFL iBT is not an approved SELT for this route.
What Do Nigerian Applicants Need for UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs?

Temporary Shortage List roles generally do not permit dependants.
Can Sponsored Workers Settle in the UK?
Settlement after 5 years remains available under the current rules.
Government proposals for a 10-year baseline are subject to consultation, and one law firm’s latest update says the reform is not yet law. The House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee called on the government to drop the plan on 23 June 2026.

- Employers missing from the register of licensed sponsors
- Fake offer letters and sponsorship portals
